Habitat Compensation Design
Client: Department of Fisheries and Oceans

East Coast Aquatics identified three potential marine habitat compensation projects for the client. Site evaluation was carried out and field measurements were collected at each of the locations in order to allow for preliminary design and costing of habitat compensation projects. Air photo review was used to further outline project potential. Habitat rehabilitation and enhancement was recommended for a tidal marsh, the tidal reach of a stream, and an estuary bank. Preliminary design of type and number of restoration structures was outlined, and an estimate of cost to implement developed for each of the three locations. A calculation of habitat area that would be improved through such compensation projects was completed. The client was provided a report and conceptual design mapping products to facilitate discussion on future project management.
